Menurut World Custom Organization (WCO) mesin dan peralatan termasuk pada Bab 84: Reaktor nuklir, boiler, mesin dan peralatan mekanik; serta bagian-bagiannya.

2. Undang-Undang.
Factories and Machinery Act 1967.
Mesin yang diproduksi atau diperbaiki harus mematuhi regulasi pada undang-undang ini.
- Dilarang memproduksi, memperbaiki atau memasang mesin sedemikian rupa sehingga tidak mematuhi ketentuan Undang-Undang ini dan peraturan apa pun yang dibuat di bawahnya yang berlaku untuk mesin tersebut.
- Dilarang mengimpor mesin apa pun selain mesin transmisi yang tidak mematuhi peraturan apa pun yang dibuat berdasarkan undang-undang ini yang berlaku untuk mesin tersebut.

3. Regulasi.
3.1 Regulasi Umum Keamanan Pabrik dan Mesin.
Regulasi terkait keamanan di pabrik dan mesin yang ditetapkan berdasarkan undang-undang Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (Act 139). Regulasi ini tidak semua terkait langsung dengan mesin dan peralatan, sebagai pengetahuan bagi eksportir Indonesia tentang berbagai regulasi di industri, terutama mesin dan peralatan.
- Factories dan Machinery (Steam Boiler and Unfired Pressure Vessel) (Amendment) Regulations 2017: Menetapkan standar (wajib) yang digunakan untuk memastikan keamanan ketel uap dan bejana tekan di Malaysia, serta mengatur bahwa semua peralatan tekanan untuk impor memerlukan pengujian dan persetujuan oleh pihak ketiga yang terakreditasi.
- Factories and Machinery (Mineral Dust) Regulations 1989: Menetapkan antara lain batas paparan yang diizinkan, metode kepatuhan, monitoring, dsb.
- Factories and Machinery (Noise Exposure) Regulations 1989: Menetapkan antara lain batas paparan yang diizinkan, metode kepatuhan, monitoring, dsb.
- Factories and Machinery (Asbestos) Regulations 1986: Menetapkan antara lain batas paparan yang diizinkan,
- Factories and Machinery (Leads) Regulations 1984 : Menetapkan antara lain (i) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL), (ii) EL for exposure greater than eight hours.
- Factories and Machinery (Administration) Regulations 1970
- Factories and Machinery (Safety, Health and Welfare) Regulations 1970.
- Factories and Machinery (Fencing of Machinery and Safety) Regulations 1970: Menetapkan antara lain (i) Fencing of machinery, (ii) Provisions as to unfenced machinery, (iii) Construction and maintenance of fencing.
3.2 Penilaian & Inspeksi.
Lembaga yang memiliki kewenangan untuk melakukan inspeksi atau penilaian berdasarkan regulasi pada undang-undang Factories and Machinery Act 1967 (Act 139) adalah Department of Occupational, Safety and Health (DOSH), untuk memastikan keamanan, keandalan, dan pengoperasian peralatan memenuhi persyaratan regulasi melalui pemeriksaan wajib berdasarkan pedoman DOSH. Dalam pelaksanaan inspeksi, DOSH dapat menunjuk pihak ketiga.
Inspeksi yang dilakukan untuk memastikan kepatuhan keselamatan fungsional dengan standar keselamatan dan kualitas internasional antara lain:
- Penilaian risiko sesuai dengan EN ISO 12100 (keselamatan mesin – prinsip umum untuk desain – penilaian risiko dan pengurangan risiko).
- Validasi fungsi keselamatan tunggal sesuai dengan EN ISO 13849-2 dan EN 62061.
- Penilaian terkait keselamatan sistem keselamatan menurut EN ISO 13849-1 dan EN 62061.
4. Standar.
Dalam penggunaan mesin dan peralatan faktor keamanan adalah faktor utama dan sangat penting. Faktor keamanan mesin dan peralatan ditetapkan melalui standar, berikut beberapa contoh standar keamanan mesin dan peralatan.
